(05/17/10) ELMONT - A hearing was held today on water quality in Elmont after dozens of residents said their faucets are running brown.
State Sen. Craig Johnson (D-Port Washington), who represents the area, ordered the Water Authority of Western Nassau County to hold the hearing.

During the hearing, the water authority announced it will spend $5 million on two new iron removal stations in Elmont to help clear the water.

Johnson's office says three civic associations in Elmont are complaining of brown-colored water. His office says health officials admit there is a lot of iron in the water, but say it is still safe to drink.
